President Bouteflika receives a message of congratulations from President Obama on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Algeria’s independence

In a message of congratulations addressed to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Algeria’s independence, Mr. Barack Obama declared that Algeria continues to play a “key role” in the global fight against terrorism and is an “important partner” for the security of the region.

Mr. Obama also said that “The American people are grateful to Algeria for its the commitment in the conduct of this battle,” adding that “Our two countries have both suffered from consequences of extremism” and have in common “a commitment to build peace-loving and pluralistic societies in which the voices of all citizens are heard.”

“I welcome your continued efforts to build a stable and dynamic state for the Algerian people, fifty years after recovery of independence,” said the American president, as he extended to the head of the state his “warmest” congratulations on the occasion of the independence of Algeria.
